The first tamil movie since "Engeyum Eppothum" that did not make me want to run out of the theatre screaming murder.
Agreed it is a very good movie. No nonsensical duets or hero introduction song ( imagine no grating music and shitty lyrics like "kutty puli koottam!" ARRRGHHH!!! That "thuppakki movie REALLY tested my patience .. Anyway I digress.
Yes. So a decent movie.. An entertainer. Had some really funny moments in-spite of all the goriness, in-spite of the sober storyline. Loved the "We don't crucify our god, we dunk him in the sea" bit. Such a class act!
Not once did they try to rationalize or justify or even explain either the protagonist or the antagonist. It was so refreshing to see a movie with a semblance of reality. People are what they are! Some kill..Some lie.. Some love... And some don't ... So what?
Another HUGE plus for the movie would be the way they handled man-woman relationships. The one between the lead character and the wife and the one between the central character and his fair associate. Thankfully Andrea was not cast as the stereo typed doe eyed bimbo love struck by the alpha male. THANKFULLY!!
Yes it is a must watch.. And Tamil cinema so deserves this pick-me-up after the recent string of poop shit movies like "Thuppaki" "Saguni" "Mattraan" " billa2" and the other run of the mill, unexceptional hum drums.
Agreed "Vishwaroobam" to say the very least makes you sit glued to the screen for 2.5 hours. But I saw a recent FB update where someone claimed"kamal has taken Tamil cinema to HOLLYWOOD (!!!!?????) level". VAAAAT?!!?
A) Shooting a movie in Hollywood because you can afford to spend 100 crores does not maketh a hollywood movie. And certainly not on par with zero-dark thirty. (Yes " Vishwaroopam" was compared to hurt locker and zero dark thirty).
B) What the frack is up with THAT dialect? Why can't tamilians be portrayed as people speaking .. I don't know.. How about TAMIL?
Who was kamal trying to spoof ? Or did he consider it paying tribute?
C) Being Kamal Haasan does not give anybody the right to make that sleazy teaser for part 2. Before the end credits.. 3 whole minutes of random nonsense.. Disconnected! Hanging in the air!!! Was this a specially screened for a particular sect of people? Cause its too random ! Even for Kamal ;) And with such "obvious" (NOTE: See how I use the word obvious and not bad) graphics.
D) I like a Tamil movie to be explicit! The simplicity of having the entire movie elaborately explained through every dialogue/flashback like I was a 5 year old whose cognition is JUST about developing. And I tell u.. I have few daunting questions with this one! ! And I CANNOT wait 3 years for answers to the damn prequel!
How the hell did Omar Qureshi figure out that Wasim Kashmiri is from the freaking Indian army?
Kamal HAD to be an undercover dance master with a pronounced feminine side? Why? so that he can win another filmfare award??
Why was Wasim Kahmiri's subordinate that insubordinate?? The gall of THAT guy!
See?? All these little questions bug me!
I'm not saying it was a bad film or even an average movie. IT was a darn good film "by South Indian standards (standards steadily rolling downhill with monstrosities like "Alex pandian" "Kanna laddoo thinna aasaiya" n "née thaane yen pon vasantham")
But let's end on that happy note. Let us not pretend like its the second coming. :)
Happy viewing!!
